Introduction
Madan Mahal fort is a important tourist attraction in Jabalpur city of Madhya Pradesh. It is located inside the city area and often visited by tourists. In past large area of Central India was ruled by Gond people for many centuries and during this period, Madan Mahal fort was built in 11th century. Madan Mahal Fort
Madan Mahal Fort is a Jabalpur tourist attraction which takes us to the history of Jabalpur and Central India. It is historical monument which introduces us to the rule of Gonds in Madhya Pradesh region. It was built in 11th century during rule of Gonds in Central India. Its name Madan Mahal is derived from Gond ruler Madan Shahi. This fort was used as Military center and watch tower. It offers bird-eye view of Jabalpur city and was used to check any enemy movement towards Jabalpur city. During that time, actual royal fort was located in Garha region which is located below plains, close to Madan Mahal fort. Garha fort was the main building where royal family use to stay. At present it is a densely populated area of Old Jabalpur with many ponds. If we try to find out the marks of Garha fort, then it would be very difficult as fort had destroyed during British India time and its stones was used in Jabalpur railways building and other administrative building. People are even unable to find the actual location. Condition of Madan Mahal fort is still better and traceable. Here we can find the main building, horse-stables, corridors and some secret passages (currently closed for visitors). Visiting Madan Mahal fort is a good opportunity for those who are interested in historical monuments photography.
